Psalm 49:1-9

Psalm 49:1-9
  New International Version (NIV)

1 Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world, 2 both low and high, rich and poor alike: 3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the meditation of my heart will give you understanding. 4 I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:
5 Why should I fear when evil days come, when wicked deceivers surround me— 6 those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches? 7 No one can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them— 8 the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough— 9 so that they should live on forever and not see decay.

Notice who needs to hear this message--the rich and the poor.  The Gospel isn't just a message for those with few material goods, and it's not one that only assists those with many material goods.  It is for all, whether you think you need it or not.  God knows that money cannot buy what we truly need, and to believe otherwise, rich or poor, is folly.
We're not used to believing this about anything.  We're accustomed to thinking that money or power or beauty can be used to gain access or privilege.  Instead, God tells us that we come as we are, people made in the image of God, sinners in need of a Savior, and nothing else matters.  Your history, your power, your success or failure--come as you are, and God will set you free.

May you feel the freedom of God today
