Gracious God,
Sharpen me.
Do not allow me to become a dull instrument, pounding away at some task without the finely honed edge required to perform. Sharpen me through study of your Word, through time spent with you in prayer, through silent moments of grace. Sharpen me, so that I might go forward carrying the Good News of your grace, of your love. May I not become content with my position and knowledge but rather strive to do your will, to love you more, to speak of you with greater passion and deeper conviction. Sharpen me, so that my words might be used by you to open hearts and minds to your holy Word.
