1 Peter 1:3-9

1 Peter 1:3-9
English Standard Version

Remember when we had a hope that the initial round of vaccines would lead us all out of this pandemic?  Two weeks to stop the spread seems like a long time ago, doesn't it?  We put our hopes in these things, and while I think they certainly slowed the spread of Coronavirus and saved lives, the path out of the pandemic remains a mystery.  I have some thoughts and hopes, but no one is reading this in hopes of getting medical advice from me!
Thankfully, the hope we have in God is a living hope -- it doesn't fail when presented with new facts or circumstances.  When something new happens in the world, like a pandemic, the hope we place in God doesn't suddenly fall short.  It's a living hope, and it continues to lead us forward, even as the facts in the world around us change, because we are being continually kept, guarded through faith for a salvation.  The Spirit is alive and at work, and our hope is alive, and so when we end up in trials, they are not the end -- for hope continues to live, continues to dynamically grow, so that we are never without hope, never without a reason for joy, never in doubt of the outcome of our faith, the salvation of our souls!
