1 Peter 2:7-10

1 Peter 2:7-10

Do you feel like a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God's own possession?  I'm guessing you don't most days.  I think it was C.S. Lewis who talked about how we are like children playing in the mud at the beach, unaware there's an entire ocean before us.
Peter is writing a letter to encourage people to open their eyes and look at the world around them, to see the amazing things that God is doing.  God is gathering the people together through God's mercy, and this is the core of our identity.  We spend so much time and energy trying on other identities, even though these identities can't fulfill our deepest needs, when in fact the truth that is consistent throughout our entire lives is that we're a holy nation, called out of darkness into light.
Over this weekend, I pray that you experience the light, that you rest and drink in the concept that you are a person for God's own possession.
