English Standard Version
The call of discipleship never calls us to retreat from the world -- as the church, we're called to be in relationship with the world, to be active in society, in our neighborhoods, in politics. It's incredibly challenging to figure out how to be in those relationships, but that's the call of Christ. How do we live in relationship with government, including our opponents? How do we extend them grace and love? How do we live as servants of God while engaging in debate? How do understand complex political decisions while rooted in a faith that reminds us that we are each sinful and yet beloved by God?
It's a lot to ask, but that's the call of faith. To be active in heart and mind, and let faith lead us as we take part in every part of society. Christians are called to represent the church at every level of government, not to shrink back. We fear God while loving others, always pointing to Christ.
